Payments Setup

What steps are required to set up payments?

Payment setup is a three-step process:

  1. Add a payout method.

  2. Verify your identification
  3. Complete the required tax form (W-9, W-8BEN, or W-8BEN-E).

Once these steps are complete, you will be able to receive payouts.

Additional requirement (EU & Australia):

Some members may need to complete an extra tax form. If required, instructions will be sent by email.

How do I access the payment setup page?

  • Go to your dashboard.

  • Select your name in the bottom-left corner.

  • Choose Payments.

  • In the top right, select Settings.

Your login email will auto-populate. Do not change this email address. If you change it, you may be unable to log into your account.

How do I add a payout method?

When prompted, confirm your mailing address, then choose one of the following:

  • Bank account (preferred)

  • PayPal account

Important:

  • If you are registered as an individual, the payout account must be in your name.

  • If you are registered as a business, the payout account must be in the business’s name.

What currencies can I be paid in?

  • Experts are paid in the currency of their local, domiciled bank account.

    • Example: If you live in Germany, you will be paid in Euros.

  • Exception: Canadian experts may set up a Canadian-domiciled account in CAD or USD.

  • If you'd like, it is possible to get the payments paid out in USD for those outside of the US. Several options here:

    • We can pay out to USD accounts domiciled in the USA. This is available to any member, and this works for services such as Wise. More info here under “Can I use a service such as Wise or Payoneer?”
    • We can pay you out to a PayPal account rather than a bank account

I’m having trouble entering my account or verification number. What should I do?

If your account or verification number contains hyphens or spaces, try removing them and re-entering the number.

Can I use a virtual bank account (Wise, Payoneer, etc.)?

  • Storetasker does not provide official support for virtual accounts.

  • Many experts successfully use Wise or Payoneer.

Setup steps:

  1. Open your Wise or Payoneer account.

  2. Update your payout mailing address to the U.S. address associated with your virtual account.

  3. Add your U.S.-based virtual account.

  4. Revert your address back to your actual mailing address.

⚠️ If you encounter issues, contact Wise or Payoneer directly.

Are there transfer fees?

Yes. Transfer fees vary depending on the payout method selected. You will see applicable fees during setup.

Why do I need to complete a tax form?

Storetasker is required by the IRS to collect tax forms from all freelancers. These are kept on file but Storetasker does not withhold taxes.

  • U.S. freelancers (W-9): If you earn over $600 in a year, you will receive a 1099-NEC in January.

  • Non-U.S. freelancers (W-8BEN or W-8BEN-E): Must provide a local Tax Identification Number (TIN). Forms may be rejected without a TIN.

Which tax form do I complete?

  • W-9: U.S. citizens or foreign nationals living in the U.S.

  • W-8BEN: Non-U.S. individuals.

  • W-8BEN-E: Non-U.S. corporations.

How long does approval take?

  • Accounts are typically reviewed and approved within 1–2 business days.

  • Processing may be delayed on U.S. national holidays.

  • Once approved, you may begin requesting payouts.
